Record the service date. The app does not print a tag.

A fire extinguisher service tag is the maintenance card often attached after a visit. Fire Inspection Log keeps the annual maintenance date in the log instead of printing a tag, so you can record what happened and note it alongside each extinguisher entry.

What people mean by a service tag

When people ask what is a service tag on a fire extinguisher, they usually mean the card or label a technician leaves after maintenance. In Fire Inspection Log, that visit is recorded in the log, not turned into a printed tag. You can also read more in our inspection tag guide and the glossary.

The date the log keeps

The app’s planned log keeps the annual maintenance date, plus a note for what was done. That fits the way OSHA treats the annual maintenance record, which is separate from a paper tag. If you want the broader product view, see features or the OSHA extinguisher inspection guide.

What we did not verify

We did not verify one national rule that says every extinguisher must carry a service tag, or that one tag lasts for the same length of time everywhere. Because of that, Fire Inspection Log does not claim a tag lifespan. It only helps you store the maintenance date and related notes without guessing at a replacement schedule.

Where to read the OSHA record rule

OSHA says the employer records the annual maintenance date and keeps that record for one year after the last entry, or for the life of the shell, whichever is less. You can read the source at OSHA’s 1910.157 page, which also covers related maintenance and test record details.

This is a reminder log, not an inspection and not code compliance. Not a substitute for a licensed fire protection inspection. Rules differ by workplace and by the fire code your local authority uses. Fire Inspection Log is not part of OSHA, NFPA, or any fire marshal office.
